Triathlon Passes The Million Pound Mark

Sunday 4 October saw over 200 competitors swim, run and cycle their way to glory on the streets of St Albans, Hertfordshire to raise over a million pounds to transform children’s lives.

Our seventh annual St. James’s Place Foundation Triathlon raised a fantastic £160,000 – taking the cumulative total for the triathlon to past the £1million mark.

This year we had a record number of applicants take part and the winning athlete, James Croft (pictured below), completed the 400m swim, 20Km cycle and 5 Km run in a super fast 59 minutes and 46 seconds while the event’s top fundraiser, Toby Fildes, raised an incredible £3,500.

Team Great Britain triathlete, Vanessa Raw, was on hand to give the competitors encouragement and cheer them through the finish line. She said, “It was so great to see so many first time triathletes take part on the day and raise money for such a fantastic cause, the atmosphere was incredible!”

The event owes its success to the local support of the Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre, who allow us to use their facilities for free. Our Hertfordshire Support Group, which is made up of local volunteers, was also heavily involved in organising the event and recruiting the 60 volunteer marshals needed to make the day such a triumph.

To date over 1,000 people have taken part in the St. James’s Place Foundation Triathlon, since it began seven years ago. The 2010 triathlon will be held on Sunday 3 October and competitors are being urged to reserve their place early as this year’s event was fully subscribed.
